Chit Chat With . . .

Babatunde Adefila

A Zonal Minister

A gentle soul whos love for God has no bounds. This month our Chit Chat is with Babatunde Adefila, the Zonal Minister talks about God, spirituality, wisdom and humans.

What is Winners Satellite Fellowship?

The main reason for WSF from the church perspective – to put it in simplistic way is a church outside church where the needs of the members are met through the study of God’s Word by coming together sharing the word.

What is your role in the WSF group?

My Role is as a Cell Minister/Zonal Minister – I lead and coordinate the WSF to ensure its orderly and get everyone involve – its not about me talking about the word of God but engaging all members to participate. Above all I serve in the kingdom of God to ensure members soul flourish and they are empowered

What is a typical group session like?

A typical session starts at 05:00pm on Saturday when all members met at a cell location however due to covid we have embraced Zoom to meet, and this has blossomed over the months and everyone is invited to get actively involved. An outline is produced by the church and it varies monthly based on the theme of the month with the aim to build up our relationship with God and bless others.

Why is it so important for children to attend the Saturday sessions?

In Ps 127 vs3 – Children are the heritage of the Lord – Getting children involved so that at an early age they start to understand the importance of God and relevance of the bible.

According to you are religion and spirituality one and the same?

I do not see my Christianity as a religion but my relationship with God who is the creator.

What is the greatest quality humans possess?

Show love and care for those around them. By being positive and professing positivity.

What is our greatest distraction?

Challenges – life is full of challenges 1 Corinthians 10:13

“There hath no temptation taken hold of you, but such as is common to man. But God is faithful; He will not suffer you to be tempted beyond that which ye are able to bear, but with the temptation will also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it”

In life when we face with challenges or obstacles this gets in our way but ultimately our hope, faith and trust must always remain in the lord, even in the not receiving is his will and blessing for he has a greater plan for each one of us.

How does one rise above all the negative comments and people?

Trust in God in all things – people will always talk either good or bad it is up to you on how you react to it.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him,  and he will make your paths(B) straight

What is wisdom and how do we gain it?

Wisdom is a capacity of the mind that allows us to understand life from God’s perspective. Throughout the book of Proverbs, Solomon encourages us to “get wisdom” (Proverbs 4:5). He says those who get wisdom love life (see 19:8); that it’s better to get wisdom than gold (see 16:16); and that those who get wisdom find life and receive favour from the Lord (see 8:32 – 35).

Yet in Ecclesiastes 7:23–24 Solomon also makes clear that getting wisdom is a challenging process: “‘I am determined to be wise’ — but this was beyond me. Whatever exists is far off and most profound — who can discover it?”

Fortunately, Scripture provides us instruction in this area. Here are four Biblical instructions for how to get wisdom:

  1. Fear God

Solomon says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (see Proverbs 9:10). But how should we fear God? Philipp Melanchthon, a collaborator of Martin Luther, discussed what it means to fear God by contrasting filial fear with servile fear. Filial fear is the type of respect and love a child has for a parent, a fear of offending the one they most adore and trust. In contrast, servile fear is the kind of fear that a prisoner has for his jailer or executioner.

  1. Desire Wisdom

The second step to getting wisdom is to desire it with all our heart. As Solomon says, we must “look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure” (Proverbs 2:4).

  1. Pray for Wisdom

As James tell us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (James 1:5).

  1. Study God’s Word

The fourth step in getting wisdom is studying and meditating on God’s Word (see Psalm 19:7). We shouldn’t rely merely on our own understanding, though, but lean on the wisdom and insight produced by Christians throughout the church’s history.

How does one obtain true peace?

Trust in the God and be content. It took me a while to understand the importance of being content- that means you are not led by what you see but when God has promised you and don’t let what others have be your instant gratification but let God provide you blessing.

Are we all one?

We are all one in God’s eye whatever religion you follow, however, there is a need for a deeper relationship with God to direct and guide your steps.

What is the most thing you like about being a fellowship leader?

Getting people involve – supporting members who confide in me and making sure all members welfare is looked after.

What is the least thing you like about being a fellowship leader?

It’s the work of God and I have embraced the role wholeheartedly, there is nothing to least like about it.

What is your way of contributing to the community?

To ensure the work of God goes out to everyone and contribute positively.

How has the pandemic affected you?

The Pandemic has impacted the world in a huge way, it was a challenging time for all of us and I even contracted the diseases by God Grace overcame it. For me and my family we have normality we are both key workers and the children have been going to school, so we must maintain a routine in our home so mentally we are not locked in, however, I fear the mental health of those that have been impacted by the lockdown hence why I promote WSF heavily on Zoom to help everyone that’s not so fortunate as we are and maintaining a normal routine.

What do you do for relaxation?

Watch movies with the family and holiday to a foreign country with the family – Family is especially important to me.
